I have taken many Asian courses at "Primary Source" in Watertown in order to enrich my "global" knowledge and create curriculum for young students that integrates geography, literacy, (reading and writing). These units are motivating and engaging for young students. These units have been "proven" to work and hold young children to the rigorous thinking expected in the Common Core Standards.

Hello!! I thought this group would be the perfect place to post this Q. Can any of you recommend a program for teaching in Japan for a summer or a semester? Like a sabbatical kind of program? I've looked into the Fullbright program for 2012-2013, and Japan isn't one of the countries on the list for that year, so that's out. I hope there are other programs I might explore. I'd appreciate any recommendations, or even contact info for people I could contact. Thanks so much!!

Useful in the computer lab, and if you happen to have a Smart board, GREAT for timed team exercises in Japanese I.

Japan Teach: A solid site with lots of materials, including some fun board games for practicing combination hiragana and katakana (じゃ、きょ、etc.).

Kid's Web: So much to do! Tons of cute, fun things you can use in class to help kids learn their basics.

I also use Karuta games in class to study hiragana, but games for more advanced grammar are difficult to find (I'm starting to design some of my own).

Hope this helps out, and please - if you have any good web resources for Japanese (or just want to add), chip in!
INTERACTIVE: Deciphering Buddha Imagerytag:mcpopmb.ning.com,2011-05-12:2665237:Topic:765802011-05-12T03:05:32.431ZRyan Goblehttp://mcpopmb.ning.com/profile/RyanGoble

Let's discuss martial arts for a while. Where did they originate? How did it spread? Name some styles off and their country of origin. What about the martial arts can we apply to the classroom? What connections can be made in order to make things "pop"? Here are some websites, including the do jang (training school/hall I teach at, which will give you great insight as to what martial arts represents):…

Let's take a crack at our first discussion topic. Just pulling something out of my head, I thought we could all discuss one of the most influential pieces of literature in China: The Art of War by Sun-Tzu. Who has read it? Who can share some interesting facts about it? Even if you haven't read it, what do you know about it? What questions do you have? Speak up! If you'd like, I've included a resource for you if you are more interested in reading it, or would like to read it again, seeing as…
