Howdy Chicago folks - some of you might get a kick out of the "What the F**K is Social Media" slideshows in the New Media and Tech Group.

Here is a day in the life of media making with students. Our themes were anti-tobacco, alcohol advertising, body image and other topics.

Hi Digital Storytellers- I enjoyed the video posted by Hillary. The video shots were thought out well and the filming was excellent. Having the right music adds so much to the drama and emotion. How did you get the clip to play in this page?

Here in left leaning VT, we have explored spending the time to make complicated, single shots to tell our story- these "takes" will require almost no editing. I let the students know it will take 15 to 20 times filming the "skit" so they get into the process of making all the blocking , acting, script, lighting etc all work together. My focus is to use subjects that fit under the big umbrella of "media literacy" and health education.

other examples are- (all of these "skits" were filmed in under one hour)

Hey y'all - do you think we should combine the Digital Storytelling and the FIlm and Video production groups - I know there are shades of difference on the two groups and titles but we seem to have a smiliar group in each ... let me know what you think? Ry:)

Creative Short Vignette.

Students wrote a creative short non-fiction story, designed a storyboard, filmed and acted to produce a short vignette. They used the internet to get appropriate royalty free audio clips.

My passion for digital storytelling crystallized in 2005 at a Tech Forum conference where I encountered David Jakes from Downers Grove, IL present his workshop titled: "Digital Storytelling, Visual Literacy and 21st Century Skills" I Left completely inspired and pioneered this immediately with my middle school students. The teaching and learning that has evolved through digital storytelling has proved to be a transformative experience for my students and I.

I hope to meet other educators who are interested in, or are currently practicing digital storytelling with their students.

Everyone has stories, including our students. Stories come from a variety of places, from a person’s past to their imagination. Some can be funny, some can be painful, but all are personal. Digital storytelling is the process of writing about that story, and adding the multi-modal elements of voice, imagery, video, and music to create a visual story.

I hope you will enjoy some of my 13 year old student's Digital Stories.

Videos coming soon...
