Making Curriculum Pop

Wanted the kids to update some historical speeches for 2014 and think about how the speakers might spread their messages today.

Here is my assignment sheet: http://bit.ly/textresponses

Here are the kids' responses, at which I howled with laughter:

Patrick Henry: http://bit.ly/PatrickHenrymeme

Thomas Paine: http://bit.ly/ThomasPainememe

Such a great bonding experience for all of us to laugh amidst the testing frenzy stress -- plus I learned lots of new things, like about subtweets and the Kermit meme.

Would love suggestions for others.

LOVE these! I had kids create memes at the beginning of the year to emphasize class rules & procedures. Been looking for ways to incorporate them into my lessons later in the year. Hoping I can adapt some of these to literature!

Great idea, Ann.  I will use this idea next semester in my elective for the rules/expectations.

Here's a quick presentation I made to present the idea to faculty at my school. You may find something useful to get you thinking...
