Any ideas for LD resources for Social Studies at the HS level appreciated!
  • Robert Zenhausern

Resouces for LD students depends a lot on what the disability. In what way are the students disabled? I would guess their reading level is down. If the student could use text to voice reading would no be an issue. Are there other problems you need to prepare for?

It is an audio/visual presentation of first person history. Very good for students who do not read well.

Hey Everyone, so glad Mike put this group on the map. In response to Robert and Judy....

First off, yeah the People Speak is a great resource - see this post - FILM/ARTICLE/STUDY GUIDE: Howard Zinn's 'The People Speak'- with links to the study guides.

Echoing Robert, I do think that all good teaching is aligned with special ed goals, in that it is differentiated and multi-modal. I always find all kinds of music and media engages reluctant readers (hence Mindblue and this Ning)

To those ends check out these old posts as they might give you some more ideas.

Hi Everyone, I'm a tech specialist at a special ed school, and I'm always looking for new ways to incorporate technology into our classrooms. Any ideas floating around out there? We're doing some pretty awesome stuff with activity schedules on iPods and video modeling, as well as trying to get into the whole SMART Board thing. I'd love to hear what other people are doing!

If you go to the Graphic Novels & Comics books, depending on your population, they might enjoy some of the comics creation software listed at the top of that forum!

Have you checked out Voice Thread?

Thanks for getting in here and starting a discussion.
