Humm, well I guess the first thing I'd say is building a community is not a job you can take lightly. If you have not published some best selling books and don't access to a pre-existing community or organization you will have to do a lot of "gardeNING."
Sharing and developing content It is very time intensive because you generally have to do some html work to make content engaging and interactive for readers. Rarely is a post as simple as a copy and paste from MS Word.
I've noticed that Nings when you focus on a very specific demographic grow quicker. On the flip side, the idea behind MC POP is that it brings teachers across all disciplines and grade levels who are interested in creating classrooms that use best practices AND pop cultures, common cultures, media, and technology.
Another thought - only broadcast things with wide appeal, use the "groups" feature to organize people with similar interests so messages can be broadcast to their intended audience.
