I'll start!
I love everything about arts integration and I use it as much as possibly in my 4th grade classroom. My forte is in music. My students play and listen to music on a regular basis and then we use those experiences throughout the rest of the curriculum. For me, infusing the arts in my classroom helps build community and I love that. My class becomes a team of players because of the experiences they share.

That's me in a nutshell... what about you!!??

You might find the website I am creating ahaafoundation.org helpful.

I am redesigning it so some links are not there.

I use Skype and could talk with your class.

If for some reason you are sent to a different page google Katherine Bolman or write me bolmanedd@hotmail.com

I think you and your class might enjoy Prehistoric Art.

I'm not really this slow (over a year after group begins) , but I just learned about this group and am delighted to see it here and to see a place to share some of the ways I've incorporated art into my classroom instruction.  I've pulled together several of the ideas into a PPT slide presentation called ART in ELA as ALTERNATIVE ASSESSMENT which I'll post soon on my website TEACHING LANGUAGE ARTS.  Right now, there are lesson plans and handouts that you can feel free to adapt to fit your teaching situation. See the Teacher Resources tab.  You'll recognize some of the MC-POP recommendations at the Resources from Other Educators.  I'm a borrower.

I look forward to getting to know you in this collaborative setting.

Hi all,

What a great way to start the conversation here! I am a long-time classroom teacher who is now a researcher and teacher educator. I love integrating in drama by using it as a way to respond to books, to enact children's writing, or just to improvise. Another big passion is visual arts, especially as integrated with writing. I make materials available and accessible to allow children to tell stories via visual means sometimes together with other modes (oral, written language, multimodal). It is a pleasure to be doing much of this with my son now.
After I made a short video about keeping arts at my son's school, I started a facebook group about keeping the arts in schools: Enough! We want arts in the schools.

I agree that it can help to create communities, and I have seen this happen in schools for the arts in CA. It allows many children who need those modes of expression to feel motivated and engaged with school to be connected to the school community.

Thanks, Elizabeth, for starting this group.
YAY! So great to connect with you! I'm going to go LIKE your group. I have one too The Inspired Classroom . That's also the name of my website. In September, our blog series is going to be about arts integration (and education) maybe you would be interested in guest blogging? Spread the word and let's build our communities!
Lori, I am not teaching in the classroom. I am creating an on line class in the history of art and architecture

ahaafoundation.org is the site.

I would like to work with you. I would like your take on the site as to its design and usability.

Thank you,

Katherine,

Wow, how thrilling to hear from you. I will be checking out your site. I just put on your video, and I can see the children storytelling about their artwork. The images are just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.

Lori
Thank you so very much, Lori. What part of the site do you think teachers can use.
I want to connect with a group and your are part of what I hope will happen.

Keep in touch does not seem to work. Should I ask you to respond once a week no matter how small the conversation.

Is there a way way that you know of to have a lively discussion?
I put my contact information of my first post so that there would be more ways to contact me and in the future each other.

Thank you Lori!
I know you posted this last year but I'll add my introduction anyway. I'm a peer consultant for the Arizona Commission on the Arts in Arts Education and the Education and Outreach director for an Arizona based film company. I come from a constructivist philosophy which means I'm the emergent curriculum, integrated studies kind of teacher.
