Jessica, good luck on the proposal. Just to let everyone know that when it comes to developing the proposal, help is available here.
Jessica, you are using so many words I am not sure of. Identity construction, subjectivities, etc. Can you explain it in simple terms that even a retired college psych prof can understand?
I am not sure, but it sounds like you are doing a qualitative study. Is that right?

Ryan, you are pulling together some complex topics into an integrated philosophy.
You plan to be finished before you retire, don't you? One of the most important pieces of advice I give Ph.D. students is to treat the dissertation as a stumbling block not a challenge. Get your degree first. Change the world second.

I'm one of the people that Ryan knows...I have just begun. I am currently taking Research Methods and Program Evaluation. I threw out my idea in my research methods class the professor helped to hash it out. I have a proposal due in April, so I will share as I get closer. I am so glad that this forum was started.

Hi everyone. I'm happy to be a part of this group- this really is a great resource. I just submitted my dissertation proposal today, actually. I'm studying preservice elementary teachers' identity construction. So, tracing subjectivities, socialization, tensions, from the decision to become a teacher through teacher ed. If all goes well with the proposal, I'll begin data collection- eliciting and analyzing teacher discourse- when the new students start this fall. No problems right now, and a welcome break from writing, but awaiting feedback on the proposal is not exactly relaxing... Happy to chat or share resources anytime.

I'm just in the second year of my program, so I'm not to that stage quite yet. I joined the group to get a feel for the kind of work that's being done. Like Ryan, I think it's great that you've opened this forum.

Hello Robert, I have to say is is very cool of you to open this forum. As the french would say, "tres cool."

I know two of the people in our group and they're at different spaces. I'm plowing through my cert exams this fall and laying the "contextual bed" for the dissertation. I'm working with Constructivism, Connectivism, Creativity (psyc of) and Cultural Literacy - blending those together to explore a more integrated philosophy of teaching and learning.

I have a lot of places I can use as my "site of study" but I don't think that will be clear until I polish off those early chapters

I probably won't be writing a ton until April.

What about everyone else?

A few people have signed up for this group and I assume you are at least thinking about your dissertation. Where are you on Dissertation Row? Do you have a topic?
Are you having problems at this point?
