My students read Egger's book, Zeitoun, for summer reading. They seemed to really enjoy it and it led to some interesting ideas and conversations about the government's role in our lives, as well as conversations about religious tolerance. So, I thought this book would be a great segue into The Scarlet Letter. One of the first things we are going to talk about is the building of a jail (Camp Greyhound) immediately after Hurricane Katrina, and the building of a jail immediately upon arriving in Boston, as presented in the 1st chapter of SL. If anyone else has any ideas, resources, etc. I am all ears!
