Making Curriculum Pop

American Lawyers Alliance (ALA) Law-Related Education Teacher of the Year Awards honor secondary teachers who make significant contributions to law-related education in their schools and communities. Candidates should demonstrate accomplishments such as developing programs that further students’ understanding of the courts, law enforcement agencies, and the legal profession; helping students recognize legal rights and responsibilities; and increasing communication with local members of the legal system. School administrators, colleagues, and legal professionals may nominate teachers; self-nominations are also allowed.

Eligibility: Current middle school and high school teachers in US public and private schools; past recipients ineligible

Deadline: March 15, annually, for nominations

Awards: Three recipients are awarded a cash prize of $1,500 and $500 for expenses (travel and hotel) to attend the Awards Luncheon at the Annual ALA Meeting
