This is personal, but it's summer, so what the heck. I'm excited about it and thought I share it with friends here. Last month, I launched my new book ON ZION'S HILL: A Novel and last week I had the opportunity to do an Author Meet and Greet event to talk about (and of course, to sell and sign copies of) my book.
Two students consented to do dramatic readings of excerpts to help illustrate characteristics of this work of Christian Historical Fiction I described in my "talk". Three other young ladies sang songs mentioned in the story. What fun to work with talented students. I urge you to perform with students when the opportunity arises.
This also is professional. Many scenes in ON ZION'S HILL evolved from nuggets of writing done with my students in class. (I'm a writing project Fellow and we were taught to write regularly along with our students.) So, in the upcoming school year, I urge you to keep those quick-writes. You just may be drafting a novel of your own.
And...the colored pencil drawing on the book cover and the pen and ink cartoons in the inside are the work of Susan J. Osborn an art teacher from a school where I used to work. Collaborating with colleagues can be the key to a successful project.
Now, if you're interested in reading this book about two college students from different states who meet at church camp meeting, here's a link. ON ZION'S HILL.
Enjoy!
