Making Curriculum Pop

With September 11th this week, on Friday I am hoping to have my students write letters to soldiers overseas as a way to serve with the National Remembrance and Service day.  I can do google searches all I want, but I don't know who is actually legitimate.  Anybody use somebody in the past that seemed to check out ok?  I am also looking for other ideas to commerate the day with a small service project (since I teach at risk students that can't go out into the community very easily) if anybody feels like adding those too. Thanks!

Consider sending a letter to First Lady Michelle Obama.  Indicate your concerns.  While it's unlikely that she'll reply personally, one of her staff may send the information you need to assure that your students remain safe after sending the letters sure to be a welcome treat to our men and women serving in our military.

On behalf of a former military mom, thank you.
