Making Curriculum Pop

I used this lesson to teach about props and music effects in a drama. The pupils for this lesson are 13-year-olds and they are preparing for a skit from selected parts of their assigned novel, Totto-Chan.

I wanted this lesson to be more reflective (using more Restorative Practice) so I had the lesson in a circle and on the classroom floor most of the time. Attached is my PowerPoint used.  Lesson 4 Props and Special Effects.ppt [I must admit that this lesson was inspired by a lesson plan by DramaWorks.]

Before the lesson, I selected some props from recycled materials and others - a long piece of raffia string, two blue cheering "funnel-looking" poms poms, a medal, a pair of disposable chopsticks, and other 'knick-knacks'.  I made sure I had around 10 so that I have enough for my group work activity later. For my music tracks, I prepared 5 tracks - two from Lord of the Rings soundtrack, Sway by Michael Buble, an angsty rock song and a Korean/Japanese slow song.

I found that the pupils really enjoyed the lesson AND they did remember at least ONE learning point from the lesson when I checked during the next lesson. Hopefully, someone else can "test drive" this lesson and let me know whether it works in other classrooms. :)
