Very worthwhile reading. May I applaud (i.e., stand up and cheer loudly for) the former administrator who points out that having qualified school library media specialists in each school is essential if our kids are ever going to grasp these aspects of literacy?? (Can you tell I'm a SLMS?) A huge part of our job is exactly what these writers propose, and I for one take them very seriously. Not every administrator or school board sees that.
Kelly, Thanks for writing. I totally agree that we all need to take the message (about the importance of teaching the new..and old..literacies) to the principals and school board members. They don't ALL get it. We need to work in this regard.  Thanks.  Frank Baker (www.frankwbaker.com)
