How a wacky idea and some cheese helped Media Studies students to be “focused”

 

I reconnected with a ten year old book and came up with a new idea that invigorated a media studies class. In fact, it would be fair to say my grade 12 students were focused like never before.

 

Larry Oakner’s book “And now a few laughs from our sponsor: the best of fifty years of radio commercials”(published in 2002) is a favorite of mine. It tells the stories behind some really interesting and very funny ads. And maybe best of all, the book comes with a CD of 25 of these radio ads. Nothing beats comparing the script with the audio track.
