RESOURCE: Critical Media Pedagogy

Ernest Morrell is the current president of the National Council of Teachers of English and co-author of "Critical Media Pedagogy: Teaching for Achievement in City Schools." (2013)  The authors argue that, in addition to providing underserved youth with access to 21st-century learning technologies, critical media education will help improve academic literacy achievement in city schools.

The publisher, Teachers College Press, has posted this multipage online resource, which includes a narrative unit, a poetry unit, a 'visual elements of photography' handout which includes recommended questions, as well as a list of the key concepts of media literacy.
