Here is a link to some notes from a current residency with eighth graders in NH, studying global & local history during the WWII era; the project is an introduction to WWII history in 33 short comic strips:

As detailed in the post, this student artwork provides an important early assessment tool for the classroom teacher (and for the resident teaching artist!) as we move into the  local history comics creation phase of the residency.  Stay tuned!

Thanks! We got the comics out to the students today, and they really sat up & got excited to see all their work together on the page. Once they've had a chance to read the comics, we'll give a short quiz (to make sure everyone read, & to focus attention on some key historical terms & events).

We're also moving into local history resources now, teasing out the personal stories from the news clippings, old photos, granite monuments, artifacts, & old neighbors about town.
