Making Curriculum Pop

As a self proclaimed TED junkie (Technology Entertainment and Design) I was browsing the archive and recently came across Blaise Aguera y Arcas talking about two pieces of software he designed that that could transform the way we look at digital images. The whole thing is very fascinating, in particular when he talks about connecting media with meta-data; creating a network and social experience for all digital images. "A bi product of all this is immensely rich virtual models of every part of the earth!" Imagine the implications this could have in our classrooms, our students pictorial content is semantically linked to other pictorial content all over the world!

I do realize this presentation is from March 2007, I wonder if this technology is currently being used? Where and how?
