Still Young at Heart

By Mike Gange

Comes a time

when you're driftin'

Comes a time

when you settle down

Comes a light

feelin's liftin'

Lift that baby

right up off the ground.

Oh, this old world

keeps spinning round

It's a wonder tall trees

ain't layin' down

There comes a time.

Neil Young’s songs have always spoken to me.

Some of my friends rave on about how The Beatles shaped their lives. They talk about how their lives evolved from simple love songs such as “I saw her standing there,” to protest songs with a motivational message such as “Revolution.”

I’m the next generation. I do love The Beatles music, and the Rolling Stones too, but it was Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young that spoke to me.  And especially the music of Neil Young.  I am sure I wore out two copies of CSN&Y’s Déjà vu. In my five CD player now, Déjà vu hardly ever leaves the platter. To this day, I still think “Helpless” is a song about Canada’s military jets being equipped with Atomic weapons as arranged by the US military.
