Making Curriculum Pop

Does anyone have a UBD unit for Grade 8 Cells & Systems? I'd love to take a look at it!!! I am very new to teaching science at this level (previously an elementary teacher for 7 years). From what I can tell it's a pretty introductory unit on cells & how to use microscopes to view them. The systems part is all about the different body systems and why it's important to keep them healthy/what diseases affect them.

I'm hoping to get some hands-on fun ideas & activities to engage and assess the kids.

I've attached our curriculum if you want to take a look!

Hi Sharleen, great to have you here!  This week is not a full-broadcast week but I can share this on next week's crowdsource Tuesday. In the meantime, you might edit the question to tell us about you, what you're hoping to do with the unit and where you are teaching - that always helps give folks a way in to your thinking.

Also, you know people do different things with cells at different grade levels - for example if you check out the Greece (NY) science Dept their 8th grade teachers only do cell division whereas the 9th and 10th graders take a class called Living Environment where they do more on cells and systems. Their curricula is pretty cool and you can surf through that at - http://www.greece.k12.ny.us/district.cfm?subpage=34433 to start fishing for ideas.
