illustrationBrian StaufferGo to related article »
OverviewHow are scientific and medical study results reported to the general public? How can and should people interpret these reports with an eye to reliability and seek additional information to put the news into scientific context? In this lesson, students reflect on what they look for in science and health news. Then, using any day’s Science Times and other resources, they evaluate news reports for validity and develop strategies for reading such reports and for developing research and experiment protocols.
Materials
Copies of the Science Times, computers with Internet access, research materials, five posters prepared as described in the warm-up, handouts
