Today, Vanessa Vartabedian (of the New Media Literacies Community Site out of MIT/USC) hipped me to another interesting effort to engage middle school girls in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math

Take a minute to visit Zoey's Room - http://www.zoeysroom.com an online community for girls in middle school which encourages creativity through science, technology, engineering and math.

They have a groovy little welcome video for the site:

About the initiative (from the site)

As young entrepreneurial women in the late 1990s, we began noticing a trend emerging with middle school girls. Girls across the board were way behind boys in terms of math, science and technology skills. Needless to say, this was not good. With so many future jobs requiring these types of skills, we feared that young women would be left behind financially. This inspired us to launch our first program Zoey's Room, in 2001.

Zoey's Room started off as an interactive technology club for girls between the ages of 10 - 14 in the state of Maine. We've now grown to include more math, science and engineering in our interactive online challenges. More importantly--after completing a redesign and upgrade of our website in 2005, we are now able to offer the interactive technology community of Zoey's Room to girls across the nation.

From the success of Zoey's Room, we developed a non-profit called Platform Shoes Forum, which serves as the umbrella organization for Zoey's Room and other technology-integrated programs for middle school boys and girls. To contact Zoey's Room for more information, please call either 207-594-1842 or email: staff@zoeysroom.com

If anyone's has used the community and is able to post a review - please give us the 411 below
