Making Curriculum Pop

Throughout history, Associated Press photographers have shown exceptional bravery and ingenuity in the field, especially when covering war and international conflict.  Today, 50 years later, we remember one of the most iconic moments of the Vietnam War, Malcolm Browne’s Pulitzer Prize-winning depiction of the fiery prot... of Buddhist monk Thich Quang Duc.

Browne was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting and the World Press Photo of the Year in 1963 for this compelling image. The photo is regarded as a catalyst that shocked the Kennedy
administration into re-evaluating its Vietnam policy.

In honor of this impactful photograph, AP has produced a digital exhibit that provides a behind-the-scenes look at how the image was captured.  This exhibit explores all aspects of Browne’s celebrated work including the event, the image’s journey and its historical legacy.
