H2 PROGRAMMING
Stealing Lincoln's Body
Wednesday, April 15 at 4/3c
Stealing Lincoln's Body tells a little-known story about the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln's death. Eleven years after he was laid to rest in Springfield, Illinois, a band of Chicago counterfeiters hatched a plot to take Lincoln's body and hold it for ransom. After this chaotic attempt, his coffin was moved several times before finally laid in its resting place in 1901. Based on the book by author Thomas Craughwell, this 2-hour program reveals insights into the bigger issues and changes at stake after Lincoln's death. Rarely seen archival photographs and images are used together with the latest 3-D technology, showing Lincoln walking and talking with a new level of historical detail. This program highlights how, even in death, Abraham Lincoln continued to hold an enormous influence on American life.
