Making Curriculum Pop

The UN's International Day of Commemoration is January 27th. This year's theme is "Children and the Holocaust." In memory of the Holocaust, a new documentary, "The Last Flight of Petr Ginz," is being released. Born in Prague, Ginz was sent to Terezín and later Auschwitz, but left behind five novels, over 170 drawings and paintings, a diary and a camp magazine. The film showcases the boy’s life and the brilliant artwork he created while imprisoned in the Terezin Ghetto for two years, prior to his murder in Auschwitz at age 16.  The United Nations Holocaust Programme has published a 32-page study guide on the film for students 13 and up.  The film is a production of The Documentary Film Program at Wake Forest University and The Documentary Institute at The  University of Florida, and tells the story of a young Jewish boy from Prague who loved to write  and draw. The trailer for the film can be seen here.
