Making Curriculum Pop

PROGRAM: Get College Students to Work on History Simulations with your Students!

Great set of programs where University of Michigan faculty and students work with your students on simulations. There is usually a nominal fee (under $200, so this isn't a big cost for your district.

Here's a friendly reminder from the University of Michigan crew about the Fall 2018 slate of ICS (Interactive Communications & Simulations) activities. This fall we’ll reprise our exploration of the country and culture of Morocco, courtesy of Odyssey explorer Nadia Selim’s fine work. Earth Odyssey presents an opportunity for lively conversations about an array of socio-cultural issues that will give your students a window on a compelling and important part of the world, while also offering them a fresh perspective on their own lives and societal values. We’ll again be convening the International Poetry Guild, and we’ll also offer our mainstay project, the Arab-Israeli Conflict Simulation. Finally, Michigan schools are invited to take part in the Michigan Student Caucus, in which Middle School, High School and University students from across Michigan will write and co-create a platform of legislative proposals related to the needs and interests of youth in Michigan, with selected proposals being presented live, in December, to a special commission of the Michigan State House of Representatives in Lansing.

With the exception of the Arab-Israeli Conflict Simulation (which carries a nominal charge for large-scale users), participation in ICS projects is free of charge, and we cordially invite longtime network participants as well as newcomers to join one of our mentored writing and thinking projects that bring your students into substantive contact with peers and with university student mentors.

The Fall ICS projects will start on September 17th, and will run through mid-December. You can register here and find out more information about the ICS projects here. Please contact me or Jeff Kupperman (jkupp@umich.edu) if you have any questions about the projects.

On behalf of Jeff K, Michael, Jay, Eli, Farrah, Leah, John and the rest of the ICS team I send you best wishes for the upcoming school year.   Jeff Stanzler (stanz@umich.edu)

P.S. In winter 2019, our trans-historical Place out of Time simulation will be offered…more information here.
