QUESTION: Israel and Palestine...How do you help students understand?

So, in my world history class we talk about current events and I try to point out things that relate to what we have/are/will be studying in class.  So, the conflicts between Israel and Palestine usually come up and I am figuring out that because so much of has happened before my students were really aware that they have no background information to understand why these conflicts keep happening. So, I want to do a mini-unit on this conflict...there are so many resources out there that I'm having trouble creating this.  I was wondering if anyone knew of a concise lesson plan or resource that gives a basic background on the conflict.  Any other advice on how to help students understand this age-old conflict is more than welcomed too.

Try this packet.  The worksheet questions leave much to be desired but, its a start!

Also the film Promises brings the conflict beyond the religious/political aspects and really humanizes it.  Very powerful...my students love it.
