I mostly teach World Literature (Juniors). I also teach a combined World Literature/World History class for students with past difficulty in those subjects. Next year, 09-10, I'll be pioneering a class called Media Studies. Don't know exactly where I'm going to go with that, film studies, effects of popular culture on understanding, video games, New Media. I have no frickin' clue.
What 5 essential pop culture artifacts (CDs, DVDs, Books, Images, Toys, etc.) would you have on your desert island?
The Oxford English Dictionary (does that count as one?)
The Encyclopedia Britannica (again, I think I'm bending the rules)
iPod
My fiancee - she's a product of pop culture, just as I am.
Maybe a sailboat. I don't want to be stuck on a desert island.
