Some quick ideas:
You could have them make a Mind Map of the story using trial versions of Inspiration. www.inspiration.com
You could have them create voice threads of the story: http://voicethread.com/#home
You could have them make comic interpretations of the story using www.mycomicbookcreator.com, www.comiclife.com or www.bitstrips.com or MakeBeliefsComix.com
You could have them create MySpace of Facebook pages for the characters - Lauren drops a template here.
Also see this: http://charactercounts.org/hmail/0108-Chron-Facebook-lesson.pdf
There is also a hysterical book of literary Facebook parodies Ophelia Joined the Group Maidens Who Don't Float: Classic Lit Signs on to Facebook
On and you can have the characters engage in a txt message dialogue - see the famous R&J text message.
Hopefully that will get you started!!
Ryan:)
