The
Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC) is a non-profit center in Portland, Oregon which has computers, copiers, typewriters, letterpress machines, classes, and more for people who want to make their own (print) media. It's a great organization and I go there on a daily basis to scan, upload, and copy my comics and make zines.
This year, the IPRC is beginning it's second year of offering a
certificate program in Independent Publishing, with tracks in fiction, poetry, non-fiction, and comics. I'm excited to be teaching comics in the program this year in collaboration with Nicole Georges, author of Invincible Summer. Other comics teachers include Jesse Reklaw, Annie Murphy, Dylan Williams, and Lisa Magnum, all great cartoonists in their own right.
I haven't posted blogs before, but I'm intending on starting this one with weekly updates and reflections on teaching projects. Maybe I'll post our syllabus if anyone is interested. I'm also teaching comics through
Writers In The Schools, and at
Maryhill Museum, so I'll include those experiences in this blog as well.
