Hey! I'm trying to help my teachers find ways to gain instant data about their students' learning. We are a 1-to-1 school as of a few months ago, so each of our students have a laptop. I'm searching tech. tools, but they have to be free. Here's what I've come up with so far:

I have tried the first, third, and last, and they are great. If your school has SMART Boards, they have a clicker system, but to be honest, the tools you mention do a lot of what the clickers do, and they are much cheaper.
Another tool to consider is a course management system. We use Schoology, and they are awesome. There are polls and quizzes, but it is much more robust than that.
www.edmodo.com- Facebook like website- totally free- totally secure- students have to have a code to join the class. They can post/collaborate and you can create polls for them to take, uploade assignments for them to do, and you can create quizzes (formative assessments) they can complete with immediate feedback on which questions the class did poorly on, individual results, etc.

The BEST THING SINCE...well...ANYTHING!!
Jennifer,
I have used TodaysMeet many times. The kids are engaged, they love reading what others have written, and you can print a transcript. Be sure to have them sign on using their name so you can track it. If anyone posts anything off topic, they get a piece of paper. This eliminates all the inapp. stuff very quickly! I really like Prezi for collecting information and presenting. They had added alot of new features!
Don't forget Edmodo...it is great for blogs, quizzes, and polls. I don't know if they charge. if they do, kidblog.org has made major advancements in the last couple of years.
I have used socrative in prof. development classes.
Have fun!
Kim
