Making Curriculum Pop

Sadly, you can't embed the video. But let me start by letting you know Rudy Gutierrez's work is likely familiar from his Santana cover...

From there Gutierrez starts by saying:

"If art is magic. If art is to inspire. if art is a weapon. if it is medicine used to heal soul wounds. or if it makes one not feel alone in his or her visions. or if it serves as transportation to a higher self then that is where I aspire to live every day."

You can watch the video "Channeling Jimi"- for now ONLY here at USPS.

Here is the press release about the stamp...

If that is not a "wow" stamp, I don't know what is.

I think Gutierrez's video is and excellent teaching tool because he talks about the connections between form and content, the media and the message. This would be excellent for any art class but also for those exploring historical portraiture in art, music, film or literature.

“Are you plugged into the universe?”

WOW.

Thanks not only for including the video link, but also for suggesting ways the idea of stamps and historical portraiture. Useful way to introduce students to another art form that relates to history and literature.

AJR!  My pleasure - thank you for all YOUR great ideas - my mom and I are thinking about starting your fan club!

It would be mutual!  I so appreciate the creative ideas you've assembled on this site.

I do hope the two of you can join us this summer for the Conference on English Leadership Summer Institute on Critical Issues to be held at Elmhurst College, July 17-19.  See more info on the CEL website.

Anna, I'll put it on the cal - I might (unsure) be in NYC for the summer, all very TBD based on medical stuff - but it looks gr8! Ry:)

You should be sure to hype the conference in groups here!
