Thanks, Ryan.  This video is a great introduction to lessons in many ELA curricula that call for the study of the history of English.  The PBS series, The Story of English is a nice follow up.  The series is streamable from YouTube.

In school communities with students coming from homes where different languages are spoken, it would be interesting to have students research the relationship among those languages and to discover the linguistic roots represented in their current school.  Would make an interesting digital or paper bulletin board to have on display for parent's night or open house.

As always - great addition - here is a Story of English Playlist - looks like it could use a DVD remaster, eh?

Thanks, Ryan for the playlist.  That's much easier to access.

Perhaps there's a school media class that''ll get permission to remaster this fine series.  I've used episodes from the program for years...students always respond with great interest and learning.

Maybe your class will rock the Kickstarter campaign!
