Making Curriculum Pop

My name is Jay and I am an MFA student studying comics at the Savannah
College of Art and Design in Atlanta. I am working on my thesis right
now, for which the current working title is "Comics for Literacy: From
Birth to Adulthood." I am glad to meet you all, and would love to
discuss any ideas on this front with anyone. I have a website with some
of my recent work up at jnoblepeteranetz.com if you want to take a look!
Thank you all!

Hi!! Your art work looks awesome. :) So, are there specific things you'd like to know? Like specific comics we use in the classroom, or ways we integrate comics into our curriculum and booktalks, etc.?
Hello, and thank you.
I am currently looking into literacy in general. I am more interested, at the moment, about what constitutes a literate kindergarten, 3rd grade, 6th grade, 9th grade, and graduating student. When is just reading the words not enough to be considered literate? or is there a difference between reading comprehension and literacy? I have been reading books about integrating comics into classrooms, but 95% of the ideas come from reading teachers, and not comics professionals. I have an idea of how I believe comics should be used (which is why I am doing this as my thesis), but I don't know what a literate 6th grader should be able to read, and interpret from a book, for example. If you can give me insight into that, or where to find that information, it would be a HUGE help.
