Making Curriculum Pop

I am really wanting to graphic novels in my classes this year. I teach 9th grade English. I think that they would really get the most out of it. However, teaching graphic novels will be a hard sell. I need to come armed with lesson plans that tie back to standards. Also I will need to get an appropriate graphic novel to teach. I am looking for any links, suggestions, a point in the right direction here. Thanks.

Welcome to MC POP Kip - consider looking at the posts in this discussion forum to get you started - there are A LOT to help you out. To start check out this recent post QUESTION: Just starting with Graphic Novels? Best, Ryan
I am interested in this because I am a reading resource for 4, 5, and 6. The graphic novels are the first in the library to go. We encourage kids to read widely, but there is an increasing number who are reluctant to choose anything else. These kids find it harder to express their responses to standards-based inquiries about theme and character development. This is not meant to be an indictment in favor of or against graphic novels, but it is an observation that the tools that these novels use to communicate themes and character development are different.
Phyllis - if you check out JBC's or KM's book (they are both here @ MC POP) you will get a lot of great ideas for framing the use of GNs.
I checked out the recommends at Amazon and like the pairing ideas. Am ordering two from Amazon to read myself and discuss with others. Am eager to explore and encourage, and to try things out. Thanks
