I don't have any of my "stuff" here at home with me, but when I have taught "Frankenstein" in the past...I've tied in the plastic surgery craze with today's youth (Nip/Tuck, and the other reality plastic surgery shows). I was able to connect with one of our Biology teachers to get some video of the lady called "Barbie" who has dysmorphia....anyway....if my memory serves me correctly, I usually let the students research plastic surgery.....we make connections with Shelly, the aspect of "playing God"..we had some great discussions....writing to learn activities...one in which we form a circle and have a "silent conversation" about plastic surgery....I usually make a statement, then the students respond and pass the papers to the left and continue the conversation until it makes it around the complete circle....I let the students use "text lingo" as well and they really enjoy the assignment! The "silent conversation" idea was not mine....I got it from a book about "writing to learn" in the classroom...can't remember the exact title though (not much good at home ;)..but wanted to share!
