VIDEOS: Music, Tone, Mood, Color, Form & Abstraction
Came across this fun video through an ad for some animation software.
The tunes are by a South African electronic jazz duo called Goldfish.
I though the video was a great one for talking about tone, color and mood in relation to music. It is the type of video I would incorporate in to the Mindblue Album Cover Unit.
The artist behind the video, Mike Scott, also has a cool web comic (Bru & Boegie) that has a distinct Kiwi flavor. His animation blog is worth a view as he highlights interesting short animations online like the U2 video - "I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight"
While these videos still have an intelligible narrative and some lyrics for students to work with - I love teaching about tone, mood, color and form with abstract art works as well.
To those ends, I must suggest this incredible slice of video art. I had the good fortune of catching this French woman, Michal Levy premiering her film "One" - set to the music of the Jason Linder song "Suheir" - before a performance of Linder's big band at the Jazz Gallery in NYC. Take a few minutes to soak in this visual adventure:
After you've checked out the video, you can go to the artist's website for a high quality version of the video. More importantly, you and your students can check out all the colorful storyboards that led to the creation of this beautiful film.
Because every medium is an art form filled with things to observe and learn!
