Making Curriculum Pop

After 23 years in the social studies classroom (7-12) I started using a class Wiki this school year. It is an excellent tool for promoting collaborative thinking and writing. Wiki is also great for guided instruction and peer editing while allowing for meaningful and deliberate incorporation of web-based media. Also great for assessing critical thinking, writing and digital/media literacy skills.

There are also Wiki Discussion Tabs that appear at the top of every page enabling students to initiate discussions, ask questions and respond to statements. Since this is the first year using a Wiki in my classes we are learning together and teaching each other how to effectively use all the applications. A few weeks ago one of my 7th grade students got on the class computer and demonstrated ( via ceiling mounted LCD Projector) how to use the Wiki widget tool to embed a video on a Wiki page.
