GRAPHIC NOVEL: Primates: The Fearless Science of Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Biruté Galdikas

ED NOTE: Stergios did already give a very thoughtful review to this book and I missed it - click here for the real deal review!

Can't wait to get my hands on this new comic by New York Times best selling author (and MC POPPER) Jim Ottaviani.

Here is the Amazon description (and link):

Primates: The Fearless Science of Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Biruté Galdikas
Jim Ottaviani returns with an action-packed account of the three greatest primatologists of the last century: Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Biruté Galdikas. These three ground-breaking researchers were all students of the great Louis Leakey, and each made profound contributions to primatology—and to our own understanding of ourselves.
Tackling Goodall, Fossey, and Galdikas in turn, and covering the highlights of their respective careers, Primates is an accessible, entertaining, and informative look at the field of primatology and at the lives of three of the most remarkable women scientists of the twentieth century. Thanks to the charming and inviting illustrations by Maris Wicks, this is a nonfiction graphic novel with broad appeal.

Also, until Stergios gives us the proper review see this New York Times review of the book. An excerpt:

There are lots of things aspiring primatologists will need to know that they won’t find in “Primates,” however. Primatology is no longer descriptive natural history; it’s about testing hypotheses about ecology and behavior, aided by statistics, mathematical models, genetics and neuroscience. Gone is Leakey’s magic wand, replaced by dwindling research grants and jobs, which are fought over by a growing pool of underemployed Ph.D.’s.
And despite the efforts of Fossey, Galdikas and Goodall, apes are hurtling toward extinction in the wild. Their forests are being logged and converted to plantations. Gorillas are dying from Ebola. Chimpanzees are hunted for food or as illegal pets. To study apes today is not to discover them for the first time, but perhaps to say farewell.

Hey, I put my review up June 10 if you check the tape :p

It must be all that celebrating a Stanley Cup  has you distracted ;)

I got to meet Jim at HeroesCon a few weeks back. He's a great guy as well as a great author!

Oh POOP - yeah, I've been off the grid a bit. I'll have to go back and make the update/edit and direct everyone there!  Stanley Cup - eh, yeah, most of the locals are crazy about it - I have a sports limit and hockey exceeds my quota but it did seem quite dramatic, eh? I hope you're doing well.

No worries! I am just glad to see you back on the grid :)

I hope life is treating you well!
