Film adaptations of novels can be used in the classroom to teach analytical skills, English teacher Jessica Keigan writes in this commentary.
With the novel "The Great Gatsby," she shows students excerpts from the 1974 and 2013 film adaptations and examines historical context and artistic choices, she writes.
"Pairing the text with the films will allow me to ask students to dig deeper into the idea that an artist is never able to escape his or her context," she writes.
