Books, Movies, and Civic Engagement: Learning Through Transmedia Storytelling, a new program offered through Professional Education at HGSE, introduces transmediastorytelling — telling a single story across multiple media platforms — as the vessel to teach students about social justice and engage them in issues of civility.
In this program, you will:
- ENGAGE your students in civic issues: specifically equity, social justice, and diversity.
- MOTIVATE students through discussion and debate, identifying and evaluating evidence, and constructing and delivering convincing arguments.
- STUDY popular Broadway shows, Hollywood films, and book adaptations for the big screen.
- LEARN how to incorporate transmedia into your curriculum in alignment with standards in language arts, social studies, and history.

Tonya Lewis Lee of ToniK Productions, along with her co-creator Nikki Silver, will join Harvard faculty members to discuss their adaptation of The Watsons Go To Birminghamfor television, along with their new project — a film adaptation of Walter Dean Meyers’ novel, Monster. Faculty will also explore transmedia opportunities for Fun Home and Hamilton, both popular Broadway productions. |
