CROWDSOURCE? School Service Workers In Film
MC Popper Cyndy Scheibe from Project Look Sharp - the people behind this MLK curriculum and other great media curricula - posted the following question on Frank Baker's Media Literacy e-mail listserve:
Here are my additions to her list (with a little help from my brother Blake):
• Otto, The bus driver in The Simpsons
• Willie is the groundskeeper at Springfield Elementary in The Simpsons
• Grace, principal Rooney's secratry in Ferris Bueller's Day Off
FWIW - you can also do an imdb keyword search on the professions you're looking for at IMDB...they have a pretty massive keyword bank.
And lastly, here's a solid article from Entertainment Weekly "The 50 Best High School Movies" that can give you additional ideas, I had seen most of the movies but didn't quite remember some of them.
We're developing a media literacy [curriculum about] educational service workers and are looking for suggestions of TV or movie representations of portrayals of people in those occupations (e.g., cafeteria workers, clerical workers, custodians, bus drivers).
We are looking for short clips that reinforce or challenge stereotypes.
We've already identified some, including:
The Breakfast Club (custodian)
Grease (secretary)

• The school bus driver in The Sweet Hearafter (this is an incredible but dark drama centered around school bus crash).
• School bus driver in Speak
• National Lampoon's Senior Trip - Tommy Chong is Red, the stoner school bus driver Red
• Ms. Veronica Crabtree the not so well adjusted bus driver in South Park
• Rashida Jones as a secretary in the TV show Boston Public - here's a mashup of her scenes in the first five episodes of the show
• In Election a janitor is the character who discovers Matthew Brodrick's character rigged the school election.
