MEDIA STUDIES

Teaching ideas based on New York Times content.

Here are some ideas for bringing this year’sAcademy Awards season and Oscar-nominated films and performances into your classroom.

We also have a detailed “Film in the Classroom” page of lessons, crosswords, fill-ins and Times archival materials to use across the curriculum.

The interdisciplinary activities below will work whether you teach media studies, literature, social studies or performing arts — and we’ve even included ideas for math and science. Parents can also adapt some of these ideas to help their children learn as they watch the Oscars broadcast.

As always, we’d like to hear from you. What films do you teach? How do you incorporate pop culture moments like the Oscars into your curriculum? What films do you use in the classroom? Why? How? Tell us here.

Find the complete lesson plan here.
