Hi Everyone,
Working on a piece for Screen Education about the role of reference books on film (and, maybe, moving image media generally) re today's schools/students. Care to rec specific titles or be quoted?
That is, do teachers and students still look up info in ref books w/ the Web (and IMDB) so handy? In short, what exactly is the function of such books or textbooks about film/media these days? Is there a need to see how Leonard Maltin or some other expert rates/ranks films? And should film-related textbooks always have an electronic component a la James Monaco's How to Read a Film? Or are certain print-only general guides or ref books still indispensable for educators/students working in this area?
If interested, please email me at peterjgutierrez@yahoo.com ("Screen Ed" in subject line would be great).
Thanks much--!!
-Peter
