Making Curriculum Pop

Hi everyone,

I think this link has been going around but I thought I would share it here. Over at Wylie's Writing tips the most recent entry (Now You See It) is all about the effectiveness of comics and graphics combined with text. A number of the references are open access PDFs and I have started making my way through the first of them (a review on using illustrated instructions distributed by health care providers). Interesting so far. I'm really interested in getting the  Mayer, et al article “When Less is More: Meaningful Learning From Visual and Verbal Summaries of Science Textbook Lessons,” on interlibrary loan.

Thanks for positing this. I am doing research on how to teach graphic novels so this is super helpful.

Jay - great link! Tnx so much for sharing this resource!

Jay, I do believe that graphic novels draw more readers and lead to greater comprehension, especially, but not limited to, struggling readers.  I really wish that more elementary graphic "global reads" would be written for young children, grades 2 and up...Thanks for posting!

hey--a friend of mine and I plan to write a children's book 'just because we've always wanted to' even if it's to just post online,  and I told her I think we should do a children's graphic novel. Adaptation or original story? Any ideas?
