Making Curriculum Pop

Part 1 of a post over at School Library Journal:

“After dinner we watch the replay in the sitting room… And there I am, blushing and confused, made beautiful by Cinna’s hands, desirable by Peeta’s confession, tragic by circumstance, and by all accounts, unforgettable.”

Using this text passage of the novel as a kind of touchstone, the piece proceeds to critique the film's unfortunate omission of most of the source material's exploration of how media messages can undermine teen authenticity (not to mention body image, etc.). But the good news is that this opens up countless opps for MLE, including the analysis of magazine covers, TV interviews, even the current news story concerning the New Orleans Saints (!).
