I think many people come to films (like Titanic, The Patriot, Pearl Harbor, etc) expecting to see/hear historical facts, but in reality, film-makers must choose what to include and what to omit. That's one reason I think it is worthless in a classroom to have students compare and contrast a novel with its filmed adaptation: there is no comparison.
