Making Curriculum Pop

From an NCTE newsletter...

Library = Rich Resources

This is National Library Week. Have you visited your library lately?

Your school and local libraries are the places to go for books and films, access to computers, audiotapes, reference materials, and more -- all for you to use or borrow. And, as NCTE's Resolution on Supporting School and Community Libraries notes, credentialed librarians are the special people to help you get the best out of all those resources.

I always love NLW. I spend the year collecting free and used books from donations, book sales, etc. Then during NLW I hand out free books to almost every kid in the school!! For any grade level where I'm short a few books, I hand out playing cards. Those who get red cards get some small prize, while everyone w/ a black card gets a book. It's fun and a cheap way to endear the library to the kids. Other years I've handed out bookmarks and pencils for everyone... Just depends on how well I did at used book sales that year! :)
Kelly, that sounds awesome - the kids must love it! Nicole and I just started up on Glee season 1 - have you seen episode #4 "Preggers" - I can't find the clip online but this quote is great from a student!

Finn: I got this at the school library. Did you know you could just borrow books from there. All of them... except the encyclopedias. [edit]
