Making Curriculum Pop

Hello All,

Here's a free online lesson designing resource I learned about in another online group.  The site is Lesson Writer.  Here's commentary that may help you decide whether this will be a useful tool for you as you begin to incorporate more non-fiction into your own instruction, but equally important if you want to share this with your colleagues in the other content areas.

If you’re educator near the middle of the K-12 curriculum, and you’re feeling a bit lacking in terms of online tools available to help increase your own efficiency in the case of schoolwork, this item may be worth a look. It’s called Lesson Writer, and it’s something that can aid you in cranking out a basic lesson (and plan) for particular course on a given day. …

There isn’t too much that needs explaining about Lesson Writer. If you come across a short article (800 words or fewer)  whose content you’d like to include in a lesson for a future day,  you can select that or any interesting text and paste it into a draft page for a new lesson.

Once you’ve submitted said text to the Lesson Writer engine, you’re taken through a process of choosing any that Lesson Writer deems pertinent. This goes for things like vocabulary, grammar and so forth. You can add your own custom critical thinking queries for students at the final step.( adapted Mashable.)

I’ve played around with the site and found that it offers options that will help you design rich and engaging lessons using we hold dear. The language is familiar; the graphic organizers and dictionaries for vocabulary lessons will be time savers. There are also several ways to adapt the same reading passage for students with a range of reading challenges from the basic English language learner to those ready for college level work.  Even if you decide not to use the site, working your way through it a couple of times will remind you of elements to include in lessons you plan on your own.

Please share with us websites you're discovering this summer.

Enjoy!
