Making Curriculum Pop

I've been followiing a couple other threads and am delighted there now is also a HIGH SCHOOL group.

Today, I'm here to invite you all to attend the NATIONAL COUNCIL OF TEACHERS OF ENGLISH Centennial Celebration to be held next month in Chicago on November 18-21 at the Chicago Hilton Conference Center.

Even if you can't attend this year, I encourage you consider membership in NCTE.  It's great organization with several constiuent groups to meet with others with similar interests.

Next year's NCTE convention is in Las Vegas.  If you begin now, saving what you can, and petitioning your administrators to support your going, asking family members to donate to your professional life with Christmas and birthday cash gifts or airline miles (smile), AND giving up one cup of gourmet coffee a week, you'll be well on your way towards saving enough to join us next year.

Watch for the Call for Proposals.  Find a friend and send one in.  Co-presenting is a wonderful way to collaborate and share with colleagues some of the great things you're doing in the classroom.

Are you a department chair?  Then the Conference on English Leadership is for you!  It is a smaller, more intimate conference the follows NCTE beginning on Sunday afternoon and ending on Tuesday afternoon.  The modest conference fee includes all workshops and six meals - two sit down breakfasts, two sit down lunches, and two social events with light snacks.  There are keynote speakers at the four sit-down meals, and then between them, workshops designed just for ELA teacher leaders.  A most enriching experience with time to talk together during meal events and between sessions because the majority of the conference is in one hotel!

Hope to see you there.

In the meantime, I'll see you here.

Anna
