Making Curriculum Pop

To help my students better appreciate Falstaff in Merry Wives of Windsor, I am playing around with the idea of reading Henry IV.  However, because we don't have time in the class to read both plays, I wanted to pick the one that seemed to best lead into Merry Wives of Windsor.  I have not personally read either in their entirety, and have been doing some research that makes me think Part 2 is the best choice for my purposes.  However, everything that I have been able to find in terms of teaching resources is Part 1.  So, I am turning to you guys to see if anyone has taught either or both and has suggestions on what route I should take or if I should just read both plays and pick for myself.  I am also gathering from my research, that one very much leads into the other so I have toyed with watching a good movie representation of the one that we don't read to help my students with the story line, save some time, and help us to start talking about staging. Does anybody have any suggestions as to good representations of Henry IV?
